JOB SUMMARY
The Austin Gay Men's Chorus (AGMC) is seeking a passionate and skilled Assistant Artistic Director (AAD) to join our artistic team. This is a part-time, paid position beginning August 1, with an annual employment agreement renewable each July. This is a W-2 part-time employee position. Any applicable payroll taxes will be withheld, and compensation will be issued through AGMC’s payroll system.

Position Details
Title: Assistant Artistic Director (AAD)

Salary: $1,100/month (monthly stipend)
About the Role
The AAD works under the supervision of the Artistic Director and collaborates with both the full chorus and Take Note, AGMC’s small, auditioned ensemble. The chorus presents two mainstage concert series annually (December and May), as well as various community performances.
The AAD will serve as the primary director of Take Note, preparing the ensemble for major concerts, a fall fundraiser, and community appearances throughout the season. The AAD also supports the Artistic Director and team with additional programming, rehearsals, and performance duties.
Key Responsibilities
Attend and participate in Monday night rehearsals with the full AGMC
Lead Tuesday night rehearsals and performances for Take Note
Attend nightly rehearsals during production weeks (December and May) and attend and participate in season concerts (4 in December, 2 in May) to be held in person in Austin, TX
Select repertoire for Take Note, with approval from the Artistic Director
Rehearse and conduct assigned selections for AGMC concerts (as agreed with the AD)
Lead sectional rehearsals as needed
Serve as rehearsal/performance conductor in the absence of the Artistic Director
Assist in season planning and repertoire selection as requested
Coordinate scheduling for Take Note community performances
Qualifications
Required:
Evening and weekend availability (up to 6 hours/week; occasional daytime commitments)
Minimum 2 years of choral conducting experience; preferred experience with TTBB ensemble
Bachelor’s degree in Music (Master’s or equivalent professional experience preferred)
Strong background in voice and choral arts
