Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a gay man to join AGMC?
No! We are proud to be an inclusive organization, and our members represent a wide range of gender identities, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. Whether you're part of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally, you'll find a welcoming, affirming, and supportive environment where a shared love of music and our mission bring us together. This applies to both our singing chorus and our dance team.
To sing with us, you simply need to be able to sing within the chorus's vocal range:
Tenor 1
Tenor 2
Baritone
Bass
Do I need to read music?
No prior music-reading experience is required. Our singers range from professionals to those just beginning their musical journey. We provide support and resources to help you grow as a choral singer.
How do I audition?
Auditions can be done in person (preferred) or virtually:
In-Person Auditions: August 10, St. John's Methodist Church, 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Virtual Auditions: Submit any time before August 10
or
Sign Up for In-Person Audition
How should I prepare for the audition?
You'll sing an excerpt from one of our current pieces, "All of Us" from Considering Matthew Shepard by Craig Hella Johnson. Choose the voice part that's most comfortable for you:
Tenor 1 (highest)
Tenor 2
Baritone
Bass (lowest)
Don’t worry if a few notes are out of your range—this is just an opportunity for us to hear your voice and get to know your sound. We’ll also lead you through a few vocal exercises and scales to determine your full range and find the best section for you.

We prefer that you audition using the accompaniment (piano-only) track. However, because you're auditioning to sing as part of a chorus, not for a solo, it's perfectly acceptable to use a vocal guide track linked above if needed. Please record with the microphone close to you so we can clearly hear your voice over the accompaniment — your phone is an excellent device for recording your audition.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should I prepare for the Dance Team audition??
You do not need to be a singer with AGMC to audition for the Dance Team. The Dance Team is open to performers who are excited to move, perform, and be part of our productions, regardless of whether they sing with AGMC. There is nothing you need to prepare in advance—all movement for the audition will be shared in the room.
What will the audition look like?
Dance Team auditions will last approximately 45 minutes and will include:
A 5–10 minute guided warm-up
Learning choreography (approximately 15 minutes)
Performing choreography in small groups (approximately 20 minutes)
The audition is designed to help us see how you move, how you learn choreography, and how you perform in a group setting. We're not looking for perfection — this is an opportunity for us to get to know you as a dancer.
What should I wear or bring?
Please wear clothing that allows you to move comfortably and see your alignment (dancewear or athletic wear is great). Bring appropriate shoes for the style of movement you're most comfortable with. Water is recommended.
Do I need prior dance experience?
Previous dance experience is helpful, but not required. We're looking for strong performers who can learn choreography, move confidently, and work well as part of an ensemble.
Attendance and commitments
Dancers selected for the Dance Team will be required to sign a Dance Team Agreement outlining rehearsal and performance commitments. Participation in scheduled rehearsals is required in order to perform.
Where and when are auditions?
Sunday, August 10, St. John's Methodist Church, 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm
