Austin Gay Men’s Chorus
When auditions are open, we welcome singers of all identities who can sing within the vocal range of our repertoire. Whether you're a seasoned vocalist or new to choral singing, there's a place for you at AGMC. Auditions for Holiday will be announced later in the Spring Semester.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a gay man to join AGMC?
No. While we proudly retain the historic name Austin Gay Men’s Chorus, we are an inclusive organization. Our members represent a wide spectrum of gender identities and sexualities. We are committed to creating a welcoming, affirming, and safe space for all who share our values and love of music.
To sing with us, you simply need to be able to sing within the chorus's vocal range:
Tenor 1
Tenor 2

Bass
Do I need to read music?
No prior music-reading experience is required. Our singers range from professionals to those just beginning their musical journey. We provide support and resources to help you grow as a choral singer.
How do I audition?
Auditions can be done in person (preferred) or virtually:
How should I prepare for the audition?
You’ll sing an excerpt from one of our current pieces, and then choose the voice part that’s most comfortable for you.
Tenor 1 (highest)
Tenor 2
Baritone
Bass (lowest)
Don’t worry if a few notes are out of your range—this is just an opportunity for us to hear your voice and get to know your sound. We’ll also lead you through a few vocal exercises and scales to determine your full range and find the best section for you.

Does it cost anything?
Our singers and dancers are dues-paying members of the non-profit organization - a 501(c)3. Dues plus performance fees for new performers are $120 for Spring 2026. Frequently Asked Questions

No. While we proudly retain the historic name Austin Gay Men’s Chorus, we are an inclusive organization. Our members represent a wide spectrum of gender identities and sexualities. We are committed to creating a welcoming, affirming, and safe space for all who share our values and love of music.
How should I prepare for the Dance Team audition?
You do not need to be a singer with the Austin Gay Men’s Chorus to audition for the Dance Team. The Dance Team is open to performers who are excited to move, perform, and be part of our productions, regardless of whether they sing with AGMC.
There is nothing you need to prepare in advance for the Dance Team audition. All movement for the audition will be shared in the room.
What will the audition look like?
Dance Team auditions will last approximately 45 minutes and will include:
• A 5–10 minute guided warm-up
• Learning choreography (approximately 15 minutes)
• Running the choreography in a small group
The audition is designed to help us see how you move, how you learn choreography, and how you perform in a group setting. We’re not looking for perfection—this is an opportunity for us to get to know you as a dancer.
What should I wear or bring?
Please wear clothing that allows you to move comfortably and see your alignment (dancewear or athletic wear is great). Bring appropriate shoes for the style of movement you’re most comfortable with. Water is recommended.
Do I need prior dance experience?
Previous dance experience is helpful, but not required. We’re looking for strong performers who can learn choreography, move confidently, and work well as part of an ensemble.
Attendance and commitments
Dancers selected for the Dance Team will be required to sign a Dance Team Agreement outlining rehearsal and performance commitments. Participation in scheduled rehearsals is required in order to perform.
Where and when are auditions?
Dance Team auditions will be announced later during the Spring Semester.
If you have questions or concerns about scheduling, please reach out in advance.
